A lot of people work on their garden to relax. When it comes to horticulture there are some basic “need to know” things such as: knowing your soils, which equipment to use and the time frame for planting your seeds. Some basic advice will give budding gardeners the information needed to get started.
So that you don’t shock your plants, try gradually accustoming them to conditions and temperature. Place them outdoors in the sun for about an hour or two on the first day. Then over the next week, gradually increase the time they are in their new habitat. When the week is done, your plants will be ready for the big move without any problems.
Give your flower beds a boost by introducing annuals and biennials. By utilizing quick-growing biennials and annuals, not only will you be brightening up your flower bed, you can also alter its look each season and each year. If there are gaps between the perennials and shrubs you have planted in a sunlit area, try filling those gaps with annuals and biennials. The most popular varieties to use include petunia, zinnia, cosmos, snapdragon, marigold, hollyhock, and sunflower.
Soil Analysis
Do a soil analysis prior to planting. You can get a soil analysis, and if you find your soil needs a supplement, do it! It can avoid ruined vegetables and flowers, so check with places, such as a cooperative extension department to see where you can obtain the analysis.
If you are going to be doing some gardening, watch out for stink bugs, especially in the fall! Stink bugs prefer peppers, beans, tomatoes, and various varieties of fruits. If they are left in the garden, they can do great damage to your plants, so you should do whatever you can to eliminate them.
If you’re like many gardeners, autumn means that it’s time to get some delicious fall edibles growing in your garden. Instead of a clay pot, show some fall spirit by using a hollow pumpkin to plant your lettuce or kale in. After cutting an opening and removing the meat and seeds from inside the pumpkin, use Wilt-Pruf, sprayed throughout the inside and cut edges, and prevent rot from occurring. When you finish this, you can plant!
Do not mow your lawn close to the bottom. By leaving your grass a little higher off the ground, it give the roots a chance to grow deep into the soil which makes the lawn stronger, and that helps keep it from drying out. Short grass on the other hand is more susceptible to drying out.
When you decide to add vegetables into your garden space, be aware that they must be placed where they will receive direct sunlight for a minimum of six hours daily. Most members of the vegetable family need this minimum of light for proper growth. This holds true for some types of flowers.
