So that you don’t shock your plants, try gradually accustoming them to conditions and temperature. Try placing them outside in sunlight for about an hour or maybe two the first day. Slowly, day after day, you can leave your plants outside for a little longer. After a week’s time, the plants should be fine staying outside.
Digging in hard clay soil is made even more difficult because it sticks to the shovel. To ease the digging, apply some car wax or floor wax to the head of the shovel and buff. This will both make the clay fall off of the surface, and prevent the surface from rusting.
Turn the handles of your garden tools into measuring rulers. Tools with substantial handles, like rakes, hoes and large shovels are great for taking measurements. Lay the handles onto the floor and place a measuring tape beside them. Label the distances with a permanent marker. This modified ruler will serve you well as you begin working in your garden.
Flower Garden
Plant a variety of flowers to keep your flower garden colorful and interesting. Annuals and biennials can add excitement and interest to your flower garden every season. Fast growing biennials and annuals will brighten a garden and permit you to change looks from one season to another. In addition, you might need something to fill empty spaces in your flower garden. Fill gaps with annuals or biennials. Just make sure the flowers will get enough sun to thrive. Some flowers you can use are rudbekia, petunias, cosmos, marigolds, or sunflowers.
If you want to cover up your walls or fences, make sure that you specifically use climbing plants. Climbing plants can cover a wall after one growing season only. They also work to cover up old, and possibly dead, vegetation. Some need to be tied to a support, whereas certain climbers attach themselves to a surface with tendrils or twining stems. Wisteria, jasmine, honeysuckle, clematis and some rose varieties are good choices for climbers.
Plants need ample amounts of CO2 to reach their maximum growth. Plants will not thrive if they don’t have an adequate amount of CO2. A greenhouse will provide the best method of providing enough CO2 for your plants. For the best growing conditions you should keep the CO2 levels high.
Once you know more about organic gardening, getting started should not be so intimidating. Apply these tips and you will quickly be eating luscious and wholesome foods, that you grew yourself!
